Press Release: Road to the Pokémon World Championships Kicks Off with Regional Championships Worldwide

February 10, 2015

Trainers around the world can embark on the road to the 2015 Pokémon World Championships by participating in the upcoming Winter Regional Championships. This year’s events provide Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire video game players and Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) players a chance at part of the $2 million pool of scholarships and prizes, and a spot in the most prestigious Pokémon event of the year: the 12th annual Pokémon World Championships, held August 21–23, 2015, in Boston, MA.

“This is a great time for TCG and video game players to jump into the vibrant competitive circuit found around the world,” said J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International. “It is rewarding to see this supportive international community continue to grow.”

Trainers are encouraged to stay connected and hone their video game and TCG skills online by playing Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and by playing the Pokémon TCG Online on their computer or iPad.

Qualifying events will be held in more than 40 countries this year. In the US, the Winter Regional Championships are coming to the following locations:

  • St. Louis, MO: February 14–15, 2015, at the St. Charles Convention Center
  • Portland, OR: February 14–15, 2015, at the DoubleTree by Hilton
  • Doswell, VA: February 14–15, 2015, at the Exhibition Hall at the Meadow Event Park
  • Lancaster, CA: February 14–15, 2015, at the Pioneer Event Center
  • Kissimmee, FL: February 28–March 1, 2015, at the Park Inn by Radisson Resort & Conference Center
